Many who read Hebrews Chapter 7 and, specifically verse 12, become confused by the statement, “…a change of the law.” Christianity has had a tremendous negative impact on the understanding of this verse, to the extent that its mis-interpretation has even altered the text in many Bible versions to make one believe that it is the “Law (Elohim’s Law - Torah)” that is being changed, instead of the order of priesthood. In fact, this is not the case at all. We must read on from verse 12 through the end of Chapter 7, and verse 28. Also, see Chapter 12, verses 22 through 27. Moreover, note that in Chapter 8 the context of this is the Melchizedek King and Priest (i.e., Yeshua Himself), not the Levitical (Aaronic) Priesthood. Yet, many English Bibles substitute in verse 7 of Chapter 8, the words “…first covenant…,” when it should read “first, or Levitical, Priesthood.” Again, in verse 13 of Chapter 8, it reads, “…A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. What is becoming obsolete is the physical, Levitical (Aaronic) Priesthood of man, not the spiritual, Melchizedek King and Priesthood of Messiah Yeshua. It is the former that is limited in time, changeable, and imperfect. But the latter is everlasting, unchangeable, and perfect. We must remember that Elohim’s covenants and Law (Torah) never change or become obsolete. The Levitical Priesthood was a “pointer, or foreshadow” to the Melchizedek Priesthood (ultimately, Yeshua). First comes the physical, then the spiritual (1 Cor. 15:46). Finally, see Hebrews 10:1-4.

(2) One (Elohim) Who sees that Covenantal obligations are carried out. Here the parties are not “equals.”
